Hi All, Hopefully the new season is underway and everyone is enjoying this (much elongated) transition into the fall season. We'd like to take this week's post to highlight our special group of athletes who competed in Reggio Emilia, Italy at the 7th Tricolore Youth Games to close out the summer. Notably, several came home with a little hardware to show for their efforts! If you have not seen our send-off post, please feel free to go take a look HERE on SwimSwam to see our full team, and for...
Hi All, Shifting gears this week towards another topic that can transcend across all different aspects of our daily lives, "I hope this email finds you well", or however those scary email intros go. A lot of times, we find that they don't find us in a perfect state. When things get difficult, it is easy to start falling into the vicious cycle of going through the motions. Everyone reading can probably stop and think for a moment and find that there was/is some point in life in which we've...
Hi All, I hope everyone is kicking off their summer on a positive note! Those of us here at Sigma are plenty excited for all that we have in store for our constituents over the next couple months. With that in mind, we're very happy to bring to you the start of a brand new series! Now unlike some of our other series, we won't necessarily break down each video week-to-week ( see: Adult Deep-Water Series), but rather highlight both the beginning and main points as we go along. So...
Hi All, This week's blog is going to be one less about swimming and more about the capacity to learn. In the past, we've talked a lot about the mental side of swimming (and life) during our mental series. Check it out HERE - mindfulness, visualization, the growth mindset, etc. However, outside of these points, we still have to learn how to LEARN. How can we become a better self, one that is dynamic and freeform and able to build upon predisposed schemas? Outside of just being malleable, pliable, plastic,...
Hello Sigma Swimming Family! We have a very wonderful announcement to bring you all today. The USA Swimming Foundation has awarded a total of $647,522 to programs across the country. “We are honored to be chosen for this grant. Each year, we have worked to...
Hello Sigma Swimming Family! I hope everyone is having a great April so far. We've heard that April showers bring May flowers, but what about APRIL SPLASHES? For those of you that are brand new youth learners, we've got some fun events planned coming up! For both North (Duncanville/Elite/TWU/TCC NW locations) and South (Burleson/Cleburne/Waco locations), we've got multiple SPLASH MEETS on the way. If your little swimmer is just chomping at the bit to hop in the pool and show off new skills, this is the perfect event to go...
Howdy all, We hope you all haven't missed us too much these last couple weeks. We resume this week with the penultimate post in our Beginner Freestyle Series. We look to wind out the final two posts while focusing on the recovery portion of the freestyle arm cycle. Although there is still particular focus to these last posts, we would still like to emphasize the importance of mastery of the other skills. Many of the tips on the latter half of this series have hinged upon a foundational portion of...
Hello all, We are back and continuing to plug our way through our Freestyle Beginner Progressions. As we have repeated over the course of this series, please make sure to spend time on each element of the freestyle stroke to help your mastery. Over the past two weeks, we have focused on the first two sections of the full Power Phase: the catch, and the true power phase. With those two parts of the stroke, we've initiated momentum and looked to accelerate with it. Now, let's look to attack all...
Welcome back friends, We. Are. Back. Boom! Back (finally) with another installment of our Learning Freestyle series, in which we go step by step to introduce the various elements of the stroke. For those of you who need a jog of the memory, we finished up a few weeks ago with our post about the " catch" and working into a high elbow anchor. Now, after our brief hiatus, we look to continue with the next element of the power phase, the true "Power phase", or that which occurs after...
