Master the Push-Off, a Simple yet Effective Improvement!

Sigma Swimming
What's up everyone!

We're taking a little break from our regularly scheduled program as we adjust into the 2023 by pausing the freestyle beginner series! If you haven't seen any of it thus far, please make sure to go check out our playlist  HERE. The next few weeks will be devoted to learning 3 different ways to improve your lap swimming! If you feel as though you've stagnated in your solo practices, you've come to the right place! This week, the first of 3 topics that we're serving up for you is how YOU can master the simple push off the walls!

Although pushing off the wall may seem like such a simple task to most, you'd be surprised to find how many people don't know that they're doing it "incorrectly". Albeit, in many cases there is no ~perfect~ answer. But, the above video is meant to shed some light on how to be both more EFFICIENT and more COMFORTABLE with such tasks. Pushing off the wall, whether on the stomach or back, requires solid footing and a submerged body. Then, a nice, tight streamline - biceps squeezed behind the ears, hands clasped, legs together - comes into play (don't forget it)! Make sure to check out our  streamline/body position video for a refresher.

Fact of the week  Simple tasks are not always so simple when it comes to swimming. In fact, swimming requires so much coordination and thought into the simultaneous actions and positions that many people may get overwhelmed. With this week's nice step back to the basics, our aim is to help you understand how to perfect simplicity. Whether you're learning how to swim all 4 strokes consecutively in an individual medley or just learning how to get off the wall, there's always room for growth!  Our YouTube is updating around the clock, so stay tuned!

How does my child move up? Come to every swim class, bring your progress report, earn those stickers, and ask your child's instructor or location's deck manager if you have questions.

How do I move up? Attend as many of your classes as possible, communicate with your instructor on your struggles, goals, and where you're at in our curriculum. We also have many adults who purchase a gym membership to 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness while they are taking lessons so they can practice 2-3 times between classes.

Explode off the wall and into new success! Glad your swimmer is learning to swim with us!
